Gerald_Waving my Freak-flag High Brewster, Jun 12, 2010, 2:46PM UTCKMI was outside Louisville, in Lyndon, KY, but we lived in Charleston, WV.
You might say there have been Brewsters in aspects of transportation--Brewster & Co was an American coachbuilder, active from 1810-1937, "Carriage Builder for the American
Gentleman", the main body suppliers for Rolls-Royce in the US,
1930 Rolls Royce PII Brewster “Best in Show”
and from 1915- 25 and 1934- 35 they produced their own line of opulent and expensive automobiles at their plant in Long Island City
1935 Brewster Town Car
When the mgr of NY Nat. Horse Show, Edward King, was once asked whether he considered Brewster & Co to be the "Tiffany" of carriage manufacturers, he replied "My opinion is that Tiffany was the 'Brewster' of jewelers."
The Brewster and Co Aircraft Division, Brewster Aeronautical Co, founded in 1924, lasting until the end of World War II, won a Navy contract to build F2A fighters called "Brewster Buffalo" (which didn't fare so well against Japan's "Zero")

Gerald_Waving my Freak-flag High Brewster, Jun 12, 2010, 11:02AM UTCThank you for the friend request. Far as I know, the Brewsters were seated in Lanark, Scotland for quite some time prior to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. There was a Brewster knighted by Elizabeth I in 1561 and Scottish physicist Sir David Brewster, President of Royal Society of Edinburgh and knighted by William IV, among other things, invented the kaleidosdope--but personally, I have no such claim to fame!
However, My father came from Maine--multitudes of Brewsters have lived in New England where William Brewster ended up after fleeing for his life from execution by his old pal James II--His people had fled to the Netherlands where they were under protection of Brewster's friend William of Orange (William III of Holland), but apparently life in the lowlands was a bit wierd for them, to they returned to England to charter a couple of ships--one was taking on water, so they went back and crammed everybody into ONE ship, which wasn't the smartest thing to do, but..., well, the rest is history. -
Beth G., Jun 10, 2010, 6:11PM UTCHi Sahara! I grew up in Circleville before I went out of state to college, and then later on moved to Columbus for a few years. Most of my family is still there!
Ancestry is really fascinating, as I've discovered some really surprising things during my research. I'd be interested in seeing what fun things you have in your line as well!
Have a great night!
